The National Science Foundation (NSF) is seeking candidates for the positions of Survey Statistician for the Research and Development Statistics Program (RDS) and Human Resources Statistics Program (HRS) in the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES), Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences, in Alexandria, VA.
NCSES has as its prime objective the development of factual and analytical information on science and technology resources and is the principal source within the Federal Government for statistics related to these resources.
The Research and Development Statistics Program is responsible for conducting surveys and special studies of financial and physical resources related to the Nation's Research and Development (R&D) and innovative activities in the academic, government, industrial, and nonprofit sectors, and for processing and managing those surveys, studies, and analyses from the planning and design stage through final analysis, publication, and dissemination.
The Human Resources Statistics Program is responsible for conducting surveys and special studies on human resources devoted to the Nation's science and technology enterprise. The program is responsible for developing plans to identify the needed information, and for processing and managing the surveys, studies, and analyses from planning and design stage through final analysis, publication, and dissemination.
RDS and HRS accomplish their work through a combination of in-house performance and grant and contractual arrangements.

Depending on the needs of NCSES, the incumbent manages the design and development of a large-scale survey and/or a large technical improvement project addressing issues of relevance for a system of surveys and analyses, and/or has significant involvement in other survey efforts within NCSES. For technical improvement projects, the incumbent is responsible for all operational and technical aspects of the project, including design of the project to address problems or issues that cut across several surveys conducted or supported by RDS (including those undertaken in other Federal agencies); identification of appropriate survey, statistical, analytical, or data base management techniques for addressing the problems or issues; specification of the research approach for the project; design of analyses and reports presenting project results; delivery of products on schedule and within budget, as well as outreach to the data users.
You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
