The incumbent serves as the Deputy Director of the BBG, reports directly to the CEO and Director and acts as the second-in-command and principal deputy and adviser to the CEO. The Deputy Director assists the CEO in overseeing the strategic direction of the BBG and of U.S. international media more broadly. Duties include:
Serves as principal alter ego to CEO and number two delegated official for the BBG with a direct report to the CEO;
Assists the CEO in overseeing all Federal components of the Agency, including approving multi-year and longer-range work plans and participating in the selection and overseeing performance of executive level subordinates;
Advises the CEO on broad trends of U.S. international media, global media, foreign affairs, and other areas, and on possible policy and strategy formulations;
Develops strategic planning policies that are innovative, practical, responsive to the vision of the CEO, and aligned with BBG's unique mission and workforce requirements;
Chairs meetings on CEO's behalf and participates in all regular Board calls and meetings;
Attends events, provides remarks, and participates in inter/intra governmental meetings in CEO's absence;
Builds and maintains collegial and collaborative working relationships with the five network heads, and with CEO senior staff;
Oversees, as appropriate and where directed by the CEO, the activities of RFE/RL, RFA, and MBN on behalf of the CEO;
Chairs the International Coordinating Committee (ICC), comprised of the BBG's five networks, in the CEO's absence;
Represents the BBG, where directed, to the Board, Congress, other Federal agencies, the press, and other relevant stakeholders and third parties.
Serves as the central point of contact with other international broadcasting entities and governments;
Provides direction and over site to BBG professional, administrative, and technical staff.
If successful applicant is a current Federal employee, he or she must be willing to enter the Senior Executive Service. If the successful applicant is an Agency Foreign Service employee, he/she will be retained on their Foreign Service appointment.
PLEASE NOTE: Current career senior executives, Qualification Review Board (QRB) certified graduates of an SES candidate development program, and individual with SES reinstatement eligibility may be considered non-competitively for appointment to this position if they meet the mandatory professional/technical qualification requirements. Proof of noncompetitive eligibility is required (SF-50 or QRB certification).
