    Summary

    The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) is comprised of two inpatient campuses: the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San Antonio and the Kerrville VA Hospital in Kerrville, Texas. The STVHCS serves one of the largest primary service areas in the nation, with 63 counties, and is part of the VA Heart of Texas Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 17), with offices located in Arlington, Texas. Providing a service to Veterans with a working staff of more than 3,100 employees, South Texas provides health care services for 93,000 Veterans. The STVHCS is a facility providing primary, secondary and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and rehabilitation medicine. It also supports a 90 bed Extended Care Therapy Center, a 30-bed Spinal Cord Injury Center, an eight-bed Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, and a Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center. Affiliated with the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, the system has an active ambulatory care program with numerous satellite outpatient clinics.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (Full time) Tours Vary (Part-time)

    Responsibilities

    HR: Maintaining VA training requirements, and upkeep of credentials, state license and DEA registration required

    Staff Management: Participate in the FPPE/OPPE process. Adheres to employee health requirements. Participate in Clinical Pertinence Reviews.
    Time/Leave Management: Adherence to tour of Duties, timely requests for leave in VISTA and for clinic cancellations.

    Clinical Duties: The staff Gastroenterologist is expected to remain privileged and practicing in their specialty field.

    All physicians must meet the following qualifications:
    Patient Care: Practitioners are expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life. The practitioner should be able to demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical and social sciences, and the application of their knowledge to patient care and the education of others. Medical/Clinical Knowledge: Knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical and social sciences, and the application of their knowledge to patient care. Clinical Management including direct and indirect patient care: open encounter & open consult management, timely completion of CPRS documentation, adherence to clinic procedures for patient scheduling & access, oversight of relevant performance measures, and participation in the development of the new focus on the Medical Home and Patient Centric Care, Utilization, Quality, and Patient Safety oversight, process improvement.

    Clinical Judgment: Ability to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.

    Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.

    Professionalism: Demonstrate behaviors that reflect a commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, and understanding and sensitivity to diversity, and a responsible attitude toward their patients, their profession.

    Systems-Based Practice: Demonstrate both an understanding of the contexts and systems in which health care is provided, and the ability to apply this knowledge to improve optimizing health care. Education and supervision of resident and co-signing of notes.
