In this high-visibility position, you will be managing and directing the CBP Information Center. This office facilitates communication with the trade and travel communities by providing accurate and consistent information to all inquiries.
This position starts at a salary of $134,789 (GS-15, Step 1) to $164,200 (GS-15, Step 10) with promotion potential to $164,200 (GS-15, Step 10).
You will manage a major program that performs professional, technical, and administrative work and has agency-wide impact. You will oversee the planning, direction, and timely execution of the program office through subordinate organizational units.
- Supervising a team of employees engaged in providing expert customer service to the general public, CBP employees, and other government agencies;
- Providing expert advice, guidance and recommendations and ensuring that staff has the necessary materials to successfully accomplish their work;
- Managing a national program for CBP and providing solutions achieved by analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of the program operations in meeting established goals, objectives and metrics;
- Directing the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of policies and procedures in the branch; and,
- Ensuring that information reported to the Commissioner is relevant to the call center.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel up to 10% per year for this position.

QualificationsYou qualify for the GS-15 level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-14 level or equivalent performing duties such as:
- Directing a high-volume customer information center or call center;
- Implementing, coordinating and overseeing a department-wide mission of administrative programs requiring application of qualitative system and management support principles and processes;
- Evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of major program operations throughout an organization with a focus on cost-effectiveness, and attainment of goals and objectives; and
- Developing and prescribing procedures and furnishing policy guidance to subordinates.

Residency: If you are not currently a CBP employee, you must meet one or more of the following primary residency criteria for at least three years prior to applying to this announcement:

Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
Supervisory Probationary Period: All newly appointed, first-time permanent CBP Supervisors are required to complete an 18 month supervisory probationary period.
Supervisory Training: All newly appointed, first-time permanent CBP Supervisors are required to complete mandatory training. The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment. The duration of the training will include CBP LI-five weeks of in residence training in Harpers Ferry, WV. Note: This training may be waived if previously completed.
