The incumbent is a recognized subject matter expert and provides leadership for highly complex and challenging communication activities under the minimal direction of a manager or executive. Acts as a principal specialist to develop, execute, and improve an overarching communication strategy. S/he utilizes established and innovative approaches, methodologies, and/or techniques to achieve both short and long term organizational goals. Identifies and resolves communication issues; and recommends solutions to address communication issues. The incumbent creates and manages the organizational communications framework, which establishes clear roles and responsibilities for program staff. Writes, edits, and coordinates comprehensive communications products. The incumbent also advises junior communications staff to facilitate efficient and effective execution of the program.
The incumbent develops, promotes, and executes organizational strategic plans, annual reports, and other publications for new programs, transformational efforts, organizational initiatives, and other policy or confidential matters to ensure the projects progress in a timely manner and in accordance with supervisor's guidance. S/he collaborates with all levels of management and program sponsors/owners to analyze and extract pertinent data from various sources within and outside the organization. Information covers a broad range of substantive issues, which are delicate, sensitive and often controversial in nature. The incumbent evaluates the environment to determine what organization members and external stakeholders want to know, need to know, and how they prefer to receive information.
The incumbent oversees the design, development, and implementation of coordinated marketing communication strategies/plans and outreach efforts to achieve both short and long term goals. Working alongside senior level managers. executives, and other technical experts/specialists as designated by management, the incumbent develops communication programs and appropriate marketing strategies to increase the visibility of AIR and to strengthen messaging among various targeted external and internal audiences and constituencies. Utilizes principles, tools, and techniques for applying technology (i.e. text, audio, graphics, or other media) to create and convey messages, presentations, and other various communication channels.
The incumbent develops the plan and schedule of strategic and tactical communications activities built around existing program milestones and events. The incumbent develops strategies that leverage the best medium and content for important issues concerning key audiences, offering a wide range of products that support the information needs of a variety of audiences, build support, buy-in, and counter resistance. Prepares content for and coordinates communication events, and creates or reviews communication material content to ensure clarity and consistency of messaging.
The incumbent assists internal managers with methods to enhance two-way communication between employees and management which encourages honest and meaningful exchange of idea and other information intended to achieve organization objective. Incumbent provides coaching, feedback and/or training to develop communication skills including presentation development and delivery, environmental assessments, strategy development and implementation for a selected individual or individuals.
Occasional travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis. The travel may be for training or other work-related duties.
