The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.
This position is located in the USDA Forest Service (FS) within the Chief Information Office (CIO) organization. The incumbent of this position serves as a CIO Privacy Officer within the Cyber Security unit. The incumbent is the point of contact on issues, concerns, awareness, consultation, and incident handling that involves protection of sensitive information; others are assurance that Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and privacy data are properly handled and managed in accordance with federal mandates, FS policy, and industry best practices.

Provides expertise regarding all aspects of information management and information technology including compliance with the information assurance and security provisions in the Privacy Act, and other related regulatory guidance; Privacy Impact Assessment Program. Assists organizations with resolving information assurance and security issues in operational or developing environments through the use of policy and/or technical solutions. Plans and directs the development of security criteria and guidelines for users of IT systems. Works with business teams and senior management to ensure awareness of “best practices” on privacy and data security issues. Reviews directives, policies, and programs. Develops privacy training materials and other communications to increase employee understanding of privacy policies, data handling practices and procedures and legal obligations.
