The Professional Misconduct Review Unit (PMRU), Office the Deputy Attorney General is responsible for handling disciplinary actions and making state bar referrals for Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) and attorneys in identified Department components when the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) issues Reports of Investigation (ROI) finding professional misconduct. The Unit staff are dedicated to the timely, consistent resolution of disciplinary matters arising out of findings of professional misconduct within established timelines.

The Chief and Counselor to the Deputy Attorney General, PMRU, performs all duties assigned or required to execute the programmatic, legal and administrative mission of the PMRU. The incumbent supervises the work of the detailed Assistant U.S. Attorneys and other DOJ attorneys assigned to work on PMRU matters. The Chief provides a performance evaluation for or submits feedback on the detailees' work during the rating period.
The incumbent receives only OPR, ROIs that include findings of intentional or reckless professional misconduct. After conducting a preliminary review to ensure that the PMRU has jurisdiction and providing subject attorneys with all appropriate due process; the incumbent makes a final determination on appropriate disciplinary action.
The incumbent provides written feedback and training assistance to the U.S. Attorney or component head based on the lessons learned from the ROIs.
In addition to serving as deciding official when cases are proposed for disciplinary action by a PMRU attorney, the incumbent acts as Grievance Official on grievances submitted by attorneys who have been issued a Letter of Reprimand by a PMRU attorney. In these cases, the incumbent must issue a decision on the grievance within a particular timeframe, and that decision is final. In matters where no grievance is received by PMRU, the proposed disciplinary action becomes final.
The Chief and Counselor to the Deputy Attorney General, PMRU also provides legal advice and assistance on topics of concern to the Deputy Attorney General.
You must be a graduate from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and be a member in good standing of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico bar.
