We are offering you an exciting opportunity to gain "real world" experience as a Law Clerk under the Pathways Program as a Student Intern. Our ideal candidate will be pursuing their law degree with a focus in international trade, is detail and service-oriented, enjoys variety in their work, and is comfortable working in a team environment and accomplishing work through research and analysis.
As a Student Intern under the Pathways Program, you will be given an opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to pursue a successful career in the legal field. Interns complete their degree while gaining work experience. This position is up to 3 months and no less than 10 weeks. Work schedules are full-time, but may be adjusted as necessary for education requirements, based on mutual agreement with your immediate supervisor. This appointment does not confer permanent Federal status.
The summer law clerk will assist staff counsel in their role as advisors to the Commissioner on all trade matters before the Commission, with an emphasis on research and writing and ample opportunity to attend hearings and other proceedings. Typical assignments include preparing hearing questions and memoranda, summarizing and evaluating the arguments and record in antidumping duty, countervailing duty and intellectual property investigations, and reviewing draft opinions, economic studies and other written work product of Commission professionals, as well as advising the Commissioner on votes. Strong writing and analytical skills are required.

You will be assigned to the Office of a Commissioner, performing day to day functions associated with the legal clerk function, assisting senior attorneys and other staff members in the accomplishment of the agency's mission. Your work will typically be portions of larger studies or projects, in which you will conduct research, compile information, prepare documents, and provide input for presentations or detailed sections of reports. As directed by the needs of the Commissioner or staff, you will perform legal research and draft routine memoranda or other documents, and perform other related work as needed. Due to the level of the organization that this position operates in, you will be required to keep confidences, and must be able to adjust to changes in direction and perform under pressure with continuity of effectiveness.
