The incumbent is responsible for managing and providing legal services with respect to statutes and programs administered by the Employment and Training Administration (ETA), Veteran Employment Service (VETS) and the Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB). These services include providing legal interpretations and advice, providing legal assistance regarding the drafting of legislation and regulations as well as guidance and other documents necessary to implement these statutes and programs, litigating cases involving the above statutes and programs and providing litigation assistance to the Department of Justice in regard to litigation involving ETA, VETS and ILAB programs and responsibilities.
The incumbent also manages and furnishes legal services regarding the oversight of proposed state Unemployment Insurance laws, regulations, and practices to determine whether they meet the federal requirements of Title III of the Social Security Act and Section 3304 of the Federal Unemployment Tax Act and are eligible to receive federal funds and tax credits. The incumbent’s responsibilities also include managing the provision of all necessary legal services involving two federal programs of unemployment insurance, one for federal civilian workers and the other for ex-military.
The Department of Labor does not recognize academic degrees from schools that are not accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U. S. Department of Education. Any applicant falsely claiming an academic degree from an accredited school will be subject to actions ranging from disqualification from Federal employment to removal from Federal service.
Education for this position is a requirement and applicants must possess a J.D. You will be required to provide an original copy of your transcripts at a later time. Applicants are required to be active members of the Bar in any US State or US Territory Court under the U.S. Constitution. Documentation of Bar License will be required before selection.
