Provides expertise in troubleshooting, maintaining, installing and repairing complex state-of-the-art digital and analog electronic and industrial equipment typically found in power plants. The incumbent performs maintenance, repair, calibration, installation and reading of various meters, controls and control systems, gauges and a wide variety of industrial instrumentation utilized for the production and control of steam and chilled water in the Capitol Power Plant (CPP) system.
Performs, maintains, adjusts, troubleshoots and repairs pneumatic and digital control mechanisms (e.g., level and pressure transmitters, draft controllers, relays, valve positioners, power drives, pneumatic and electric motor operated valves, pressure controllers, and similar mechanisms); refrigerant leak detectors; emissions monitoring equipment; and electromechanical control mechanisms (e.g., water softener and de-alkalized control panels, automatic poppet valves, and chemical timer switches).
Maintains, repairs, adjusts and calibrates meters (e.g., flow meters, differential pressure switches, pneumatic and electronic flow indicators and recorders and electronic flow meters) and gauges (e.g., low pressure, high pressure and vacuum).
Maintains, adjusts and repairs chemical feed pumps by performing such tasks as: re-packing stuffing glands, adjusting ratio controls, setting and adjusting times, replacing injection quills and replacing valves and fittings in the lines and on the chemical pumps.
Maintains, adjusts and repairs electric motor valves, electro-hydraulic valves and air diaphragm motor valves with needle type, double sealed type or three-way type inner valves in lines associated with control systems for production of steam and chilled water (e.g., chemical feed lines, continuous blow down lines, condensate lines, city water supply, boiler feed water, condenser water lines and chilled water lines).
Maintains and adjusts the operation of various tanks associated with automatic liquid feed systems in the Steam Production Plant (e.g., softener tanks, brine tanks, de-alkalizers, chemical mixing tanks, and hot-well and de-aerator tanks), the chilled water makeup and the cooling towers of the refrigeration plant.
Performs daily chemical analysis and treatment of condenser water, condensate return, boiler feed-water, soft water and city water to determine such factors as hardness, oxygen content, total solids, alkalinity, sulfites, chlorides and phosphate in terms of parts per million. The tests are used to determine present condition of the various treated waters in order to calculate further treatment and to indicate malfunctions of the various chemical control equipment. Adjusts chemical feed levels of chelate, sulfuric acid, caustic soda, sulfite, scale inhibitors, silicide, biocides, bio-dispersants and other chemicals that keep plant water treatment within the recommended range of control.
Solves complex problems by analyzing installation, circuitry and operating characteristics of the control systems. Adjusts and aligns system sensors, transmitters, amplifiers, power supplies, display devices, controls, transponders, actuators, servos, computers and related components. Installs serviceable components and performs total systems alignment and calibration in accordance with existing technical instructions. Accomplishes modification of components or systems and completes thorough system checks for proper operation. Maintains, modifies, calibrates and inspects a wide variety of user test, measurement and diagnostic equipment.
Installs, maintains and modifies pneumatic, electric and electronic controls and control systems for industrial type applications such as fly ash removal systems, stack emission monitoring, chemical treatment feed and oxygen trim controls. Ensures that installed systems and controls function to meet operating needs by mounting instrumentation, installing tubing, installing conduit, installing cable trays and connecting wiring to appropriate terminations.
Performs combustion testing on all operating natural gas, coal and oil-fired boilers to achieve maximum performance. Maintains, calibrates and updates building ventilation controls for heating and air conditioning.
Complies with all OSHA and Office of Compliance (OOC) safety requirements for the trade.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
