    Summary

    The medical center provides care to approximately 82,000 veterans in the midlands and upstate South Carolina. Community Based Outpatient Clinics are located in Anderson, Greenville, Spartanburg, Florence, Orangeburg, Sumter, and Rock Hill, and provide primary care, mental health, and telemedicine services. Dorn VAMC is affiliated with the University of South Carolina (USC) School of Medicine and provides teaching services for students and residents.

    Columbia, South Carolina, is a wonderful place to live and work. A small-town atmosphere within a metropolitan city, Columbia is known for its museums, restaurants, and the University of South Carolina. Columbia offers four-season outdoor activity with several championship golf courses in the area and is a short drive from the mountains and the beach. Columbia is located near a 50,000 acre lake with boating and recreational opportunities and is also in close proximity to the premier Atlantic Ocean beaches and mountains.

    The WJB Dorn VA Medical Center, Columbia, SC is seeking a full-time physician for our Emergency Department. In addition to the excellent benefits of federal government employment, we offer flexible work schedules of 40 hours per week, or 80 hours per two-week pay period. Physicians perform clinical duties in the 10 bed ED which operates 24/7 for the 17,500 patients seen annually. There is an associated urgent care staffed by one (1) physician and four (4) Nurse Practitioners that sees approximately 13,500 additional patients. The incumbent must maintain proficiency in critical care skills, including central line placement and intubations. Most cases are medical and very little trauma.

    This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program within VHA. If selected for this position you must meet specific individual eligibility criteria in accordance with VHA policy 1021 and apply for EDRP within four (4) months of appointment. Final award amount and program start date is determined after review of a complete EDRP application and supporting documentation by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office.     Work Schedule: Rotational 12 hour shifts to include nights, weekends and holidays (Subject to change based on agency needs).
