This position is located in the Government Accountability Office (GAO), Human Capital Office (HCO), Counseling Services which provides free, confidential, short-term counseling for all GAO employees about work-related and personal issues. The professional counselors can provide appropriate referrals to outside mental health professionals for specialized or long-term assistance. Counseling Services also manages support groups, including a Parent Support Group and a Caregiver Support Group. In addition, Counseling Services offers consultation to managers and work groups.
Counseling Services is responsible for the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which offers a variety of services and assistance to GAO’s employees and their family members which include employee assistance counseling, problem assessment, crisis intervention, managerial consultation, wellness promotion, related workshops, lunch-time seminars and briefing programs, and others as required.
The GAO is part of the Legislative Branch of the Federal government. As such, all positions are in the excepted service. Applicants must have satisfactory completion of 2 full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or satisfactory completion in an accredited educational institution of all the requirements for a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology.
