This is a CORE position providing aggressive and ongoing effort designed to ensure that disaster relief funds are spent appropriately, while identifying fraud, waste, and abuse as early as possible. The office keeps Congress, the Secretary, the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and others fully informed on problems relating to disaster operations and assistance programs, and progress regarding corrective actions.

The Office of Investigations (INV) investigates allegations of criminal, civil, and administrative misconduct involving DHS employees, contractors, grantees, and programs. These investigations can result in criminal prosecutions, fines, civil monetary penalties, administrative sanctions, and personnel actions. INV conducts investigations involving the misuse of federal disaster funds and the fraud schemes that occur following a natural disaster.
