This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. Upon successful completion of the internship, the intern may be converted to a term or permanent position if one should become available during the course of their internship.
This is an Excepted Service, temporary appointment not-to-exceed one year. This appointment may be extended each year without further competition, as long as the incumbent continues to meet the eligibility requirements under the Pathways Internship program and funding is available. Your internship and employment with us will be terminated either upon completion of your education program or failure to comply with Pathways requirements.
Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

Operates heavy power equipment, such as lawn mowers, portable snow blowers, and all types of hand tools (shovels, rakes, lawn edging equipment) to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, and trails. Loads and unloads supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, and moves furniture. Digs ditches and trenches with pick and shovel; mixes and pours concrete, asphalt, and hot/cold mix; fills and levels holes in damaged roads. Moves heavily loaded wheelbarrows and hand trucks; uses heavy type power mowers including adjusting blades, cleaning and oiling. Cuts heavy trees with axe or chainsaw; stacks heavy logs, lumber, and sacks of cement, or performs other duties requiring similar judgment and comparable physical effort.
You will NOT be considered under Pathways unless you provide supporting information from your school. Documentation may be provided in letter format from your academic advisor, school counselor, admission office, etc. to prove enrollment OR it may be provided in the form of several official documents from your school such as a copy of your official transcripts and a copy of your class schedule for next semester. Copies of documents from your school website are acceptable if they contain all relevant information as listed above. Letters from advisors or other school officials must be on school letterhead.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.
If selected, you will be required to sign a Pathways Agreement which specifies the conditions of your employment as we've indicated in this job announcement. You must continue to meet the Pathways Program requirements throughout the duration of your appointment. To verify that you do, we will require proof of your continued enrollment and good standing each semester or grading period throughout your internship. Failure to do so will result in termination of your internship and employment.
Physical Demands: The work performed requires the exertion of moderate to heavy physical effort. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds.
Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside and is frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, noise, dust, and dirt. There is the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts, and scrapes. Work requires employee to follow proper safety procedures and use of safety equipment.
