These positions are on a Full-Time temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.

Conducts basic research of topics for the purpose of providing interpretive programs, both orally and/or in writing. Presents a variety of formal and informal programs including orientation talks, environmental education programs, conducted walks, demonstrations and campfire programs.
Informs visitors about park facilities and resources. Duties are performed on or off-site at locations designated by the park, e.g. visitor centers, campgrounds, historical sites, auditoriums, etc. Learns park resources by reviewing published maps, park research materials, and other documents previously prepared by park rangers and other professionals and by talking with park staff. Provides assistance in connection with one-time or annual celebrations related to the programs and themes of the park and assists in the operations of special events.
Operates a variety of audiovisual and other equipment used in connection with interpretive material, e.g., projectors, cassettes and video equipment.
As assigned, serves as a member of all-risk operations, e.g. search and rescue, wildland and structural fires, etc. Performs emergency medical services.
As assigned, staffs permit stations for backcountry or wilderness use and educates visitors regarding the requirements for backcountry hiking and camping, the reasons for the regulations, etc.As assigned, performs various administrative duties, e.g., scheduling, gathering routine information for reports, compilation of statistical data, etc.
Effigy Mounds National Monument (EFMO) is located in the rugged bluffs three miles north of Marquette Iowa along the Mississippi River. The 2526 acre monument was established in 1949 to protect over 200 burial mounds in variety of shapes including effigies of bears and birds of prey. The diverse mixture of forest, prairies, wetlands and rivers found today are remnants of the environment that once supported the ancient mound building cultures. The Resource Management Division is actively managing this cultural landscape by restoring damaged plant communities and reintroducing natural processes. Government Housing is not available. Keewenaw National Historical Park (KEWE) is located in Calumet. The Calumet area has a population of approximately 6,000 people with community amenities that include a hospital, public school, library, and an historic civic and commercial district. The cities of Houghton and Hancock are located approximately 12 miles south and are home to Michigan Technological University and Finlandia University respectively.
Park housing is not available. Housing is available in surrounding communities for both rental and purchase. Summers are mild with daytime temperatures typically ranging from 60 to 90 degrees. The area features recreational trails for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. Close proximity to Lake Superior and small inland lakes and streams affords opportunities for swimming, fishing, boating, and camping. Daytime winter temperatures range from 30 to -10 degrees. Winter snowfall is abundant, averaging between 150 to 250 inches per year. Winter recreational activities include alpine skiing, ice skating, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.

Fort Larned National Historical Site (FOLS) is located six miles west of Larned, Kansas. Government housing is not available; however, houses and apartments are available to rent or to own in the nearby area. Public transportation is not available. Shopping, schools and a hospital are all available in town. This is a rural area, 2 ½ hours from Wichita. Elevation is 2,036 feet and the average rainfall is 23 inches.
