This position is in the Senior Executive Service (SES), a small, elite group of top government leaders. SES members possess a diverse portfolio of experiences including strong skills to lead across organizations. As a Senior Executive, you will influence the direction of innovation and transformation of the federal government and lead the next generation of public servants.
The Principal Director serves as the principal advisor to the DCIO (IE) providing expertise in IT, including NSS and IRM matters, as well as, the DoD Joint Information Environment. The incumbent provides technical support and professional advice on DoD IT trends, innovation and solutions. The Principal Director manages a staff of SES, HQE, GS, military and contractor personnel providing broad guidance on policy, programmatic and technical issues. In the absence of the DCIO (IE), the Principal Director performs the duties of the DCIO (IE).

Serves as principal advisor and assistant to DCIO (IE) on matters that cut across organizational /functional lines and require executive direction, and that require analysis of conflicting and divergent viewpoints to produce options for courses of action for a DCIO (IE) and/or a DoD CIO decision.
Manages day to day DCIO (IE) staff activities including internal budgets and contracts and provides oversight of personnel and staffing to integrate planning across all directorates.
Participates in formal reviews in conjunction with other offices in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint Staff, Military Departments and, Defense Agencies and Activities to ensure DoD's ability to meet national security mission requirements.
Ensures DoD-wide IT standards are prescribed and enforced, and recommends the elimination of duplicative IT systems within the DoD information environment.
Monitors and evaluates the performance of DoD IT programs through applicable performance measurements and advises the DCIO (IE) and DoD CIO whether to continue, modify, or terminate DoD IT programs or projects.
Participates in collaboration with Military Departments and Defense Agency representatives on development, resourcing and implementation of Defense-wide information enterprise initiatives.
All newly appointed Career SES leaders must sign the Reassignment Rights Obligations Agreement as a condition of appointment into the SES.

In order to qualify for this position, you must be able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance.
