This position is located in the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), Information Technology (IT) Team. The IT Team oversees federal information management and technology areas, such as systems acquisition, development, and operations, investment management, federal computer security, cyber critical infrastructure protection, privacy, and e-government. Among other things, the team works to:
• assess and improve the government’s substantial IT investments—including high-risk modernization efforts;
• develop and expand best practice methodologies to guide IT investment decision making;
• strengthen information security and protect the computer and telecommunications systems that support the nation’s vital infrastructures; and
• improve how the government collects and manages its information and protects the security and privacy of government data.
The anticipated start date for these intern positions is May/June 2018. Student interns may have an opportunity for a permanent position based on a successful intern experience (comprised of a minimum of 400 hours) and successful completion of degree requirements. The ability to convert to a GAO permanent or term appointment with 400 hours of work experience acquired through GAO’s internship program is applicable to GAO ONLY.

Participating on a team to conduct audits and audit-related work evaluating federal information management and technology program areas such as privacy, systems acquisition and development, investment management, federal computer security, enterprise architecture, and critical infrastructure protection.
