    The Peer Specialist serves as a recovery agent by providing and advocating for any effective recovery based services.

    This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-09. At the GS-6/7/8 grade levels you will perform assignment of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-09. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.

    Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm, with an alternate weekend schedule possible Tuesday-Saturday 8:00am - 4:30pm.

    Duties include, but are limited to:

    • Participate in the service, training, consultative and other professional activities of rehabilitation treatment program and functions as a full professional member of the multidisciplinary team, assisting physicians and other professional/non-professional personnel in a rehabilitation treatment program;
    • Perform a variety of therapeutic and supportive tasks that include assisting their peers in articulating their goals for recovery, learning and practicing new skills, helping them monitor their progress, assisting them in their treatment, modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies based on the specialist's own recovery experience, and supporting them in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services;
    • Access transportation and driving a government car is required to perform in a wide range of settings, including within the Medical Center, Community Based Outpatient Clinics, in community or private family homes; or in transport vehicles;
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Travel Required

    50% or less - Incumbent will be required to operate a government vehicle to perform the duties of the position
