This position is located in the Office of Maritime Labor and Training, Office of the Deputy Associate Administrator for Maritime Education and Training, Office of the Associate Director for Strategic Sealift, Maritime Administration (MARAD).
The Office of Maritime Labor and Training is responsible for overseeing (1) all matters relating to service obligations with respect to undergraduates and graduates of the United States Merchant Marine Academy and State Maritime Academies (2) maritime industry related training for shipboard (both licensed and unlicensed, and other personnel intending to work in the maritime industries of the United States; (3) the review and development of policies and programs in the United States Merchant Marine Academy and the State Maritime Academies and Colleges; with particular reference to the graduation of United States Coast Guard licensed officers, (4) the review and development of policies and programs for any educational institution in the United States that trains individuals for work in the maritime industry of the United States,, and (5) emergency preparedness functions relevant to seafarers and maritime workers.
This position is established as Director of Maritime Labor and Training and is responsible for establishing and directing education and training programs and implementing professional standards for sea-going and other maritime personnel with critical skills related to the maritime industry and maritime transportation.
