The Deputy Director of Civil Engineers participates in top-level management of Air Force-wide activities involving policy and strategy
development, resource advocacy and program oversight for planning and programming of Air Force Installations worldwide, including military
construction management; housing management (accompanied and unaccompanied); airbase operations and maintenance; environmental
planning and program management; installation development planning; Civil Engineer enterprise business systems; facility-related control
systems cybersecurity; energy assurance and resiliency; real property accountability and management; disaster preparedness, explosive
ordnance disposal and airbase operability activities. The Deputy Director serves as the Functional Manager for civilian Civil Engineers. The
Deputy Director shares responsibility with the Director of Civil Engineers accomplishing Air Staff functions relating to Civil Engineering and
represents the Director in high level policy development, resource advocacy and program oversight activities involving Air Force, Department of
Defense, other federal agencies and Congressional committees. The Deputy Director acts as or on behalf of the Director in their absence.
Education Requirement:
A professional engineering degree from an accredited institution is required. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.-or-A combination of education and experience as required by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Failure to meet any one of the mandatory technical or executive core qualification standards will eliminate a candidate from further consideration. A screening panel will evaluate the candidates for this position composed of a diverse mix of senior executives selected for organizational and/or functional backgrounds relevant to this position.
