About the Position:
The Yakima Training Center (YTC) is located in south central Washington State, adjacent to the community of Selah and 10 miles from Yakima. The area is known for a wide variety of agriculture, including apples, cherries, stone fruit, lavender, wine grapes, and hops. Over 100 wineries and breweries are located throughout the Yakima Valley, Outdoor recreation opportunities include world-famous fly fishing on the Yakima River, boating, white water rafting, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, and multiple ski slopes are under an hour away. The city of Selah was ranked #5 for the safest places to live in Washington. The city of Yakima was recently named an All-American City for 2015 by the National Civic League. The larger metropolitan areas of Seattle, Portland, and Spokane are close enough for a day trip.

As a Firefighter (Basic Life Support), you will be required to perform the following duties:
-Respond to emergencies involving traumatic injury or medical illness which may be life threatening.
-Respond on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injuries and illnesses which will require basic life support.
-Operate a variety of major motorized firefighting equipment, including structural, and brush firefighting vehicles, using thorough knowledge of equipment capabilities to respond to various types of fire alarms, including structural, mutual aid request, hazardous materials incidents, medical calls, hazardous operation standbys, and rangeland fires. Vehicles contain water, light water, and chemical firefighting agents.
-Drive the equipment to and from the scene of the hazard or fire and are responsible for positioning the vehicle to achieve maximum effectiveness while maintaining safety.
-Monitor water or foam level in the tanks of self-contained vehicles.
-Determine hose pressure for distance to be pumped.
-Operate equipment such as two-way radios, pumps, and valves.
