He/She functions as an integral member of the Cardiology Team to provide care for patients with complex, stable and unstable cardiac problems. The RN's care is not limited to cardiac cares, but also encompasses medical/surgical problems. The RN's role includes, but is not limited to: initial and ongoing physical and psychosocial assessments; synthesis of data from various assessments, monitoring devices, laboratory and imaging reports; problem identification; care planning; patient advocacy; collaboration with others; strict observation of infection control guidelines; moderate sedation medication administration; airway management skills; moderate sedation monitor skills; and patient education. Cardiology Nurses practice in an autonomous practice setting, peering off with other health team members. The Cardiology Nurses are self-directed in ensuring the ongoing flow of care delivery and functioning of the area. This well-controlled team is self-governing and independent.
The incumbent must be efficient in cardiac nurse case management to include basis dysrhythmia identification and recognition of abnormal EKGs, performance of moderate sedation and understanding processes and procedures related to Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiac Catheterizations, Trans-esophageal Echocardiography, Cardioversion, and Electrophysiology to include all heart device implantations. The incumbent must also display appropriate knowledge and judgment with regards to facilitating the referral of patients for advanced diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The incumbent should be a professional nurse who is accountable for coordinating the care of cardiology patients; through various services, in-patient, out-patient and with the community based outpatient (CBOC) clinics while in the outpatient clinics or on the heart and vascular mobile unit. Incumbent is responsible for establishing and maintaining mutual understanding and collaboration among members of the health care team; coordinating and providing patient/family/staff education. These responsibilities require independent function and high level self-direction. Other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, Compressed tour of duty 7:00 am-5:30 pm. Tour of duty is subject to change based on agency needs.
