About the Position:
This position serves
as a Computer Scientist
in the Communication Command, Software Engineering Center, Sensors and Mission
Division applying of scientific knowledge directed toward the creation of new
or substantially improved equipment, materials, instrumentation, devices,
systems, mathematical models, processes, techniques, and procedures, which will
perform a useful function or be suitable for a variety of duties.
Telework Eligibility Statement: This position may be eligible for situational TELEWORK only, including emergency and OPM prescribed unscheduled Telework. Supervisor approval will be required on a case-by-case basis.
Term appointment may be extended up to a maximum of six years.
An individual selected for this position under a Term appointment may be eligible for conversion to career conditional appointment at a later date provided the following conditions have been met:
- Incumbent was selected for the term position under competitive procedures,
- Incumbent has served two years of continuous service in the term position; and
- Conversion to a permanent position is in the same broadband level and occupational family as the modified term position.

Basic Requirement for Computer Scientist, DB-1550-03
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in computer science or bachelor's degree (or higher degree) with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: support research, development, design and use of active and passive sensor performance and /or human performance modeling and characterization; perform data analysis review and reporting perception test management and execution. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower pay band/level position in the federal service (DB-02).
