These positions are Full-Time temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area is March-October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: March 2018

The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Natural Resource Program Manager on all aspects of natural resource stewardship at Boston Harbor Islands NRA, including field and office work. Specific program areas include invasive plant control, biological monitoring, community-based volunteer programs, and providing natural resource information to staff and partners. The work involves collecting and organizing field data. Ensuring adequate quality control of data collected. Performing routine and recurring testing of collected samples, recording all data collected and providing preliminary assessment and classification of the information. Evaluate observed conditions and problems and make preliminary determination on the cause of problems noted. Assists in the preparation of reports, plans and guidelines. Provide logistical support and area orientation. Installing operating and maintaining resource management equipment (e.g., tools, traps, and sampling, monitoring, photographic and laboratory equipment). The work also involves coordinating public programs, carrying tools and materials to field sites, and frequent transit on small landing crafts. Position requires the Incumbent to have experience using GPS units in a professional capacity, Must have experience managing volunteers and/or youth groups in a professional setting.
The incumbent will be duty stationed at the Boston Harbor Islands NRA office in downtown Boston, MA, and sometimes will be required to report to field locations including boat docks at the Charlestown Navy Yard, the South Boston waterfront, Quincy, MA, Hingham, MA, and Saugus Iron Works NHS in Saugus, MA.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands: The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items (e.g., packs and equipment up to 50 pounds) must be lifted and carried on a routine basis.
Working Conditions: The work is performed in an office, laboratory, and/or in a field. Field work includes exposure to extreme weather conditions and terrain, pesticides, poisonous plants, biting insects.
