    Summary

    The Dietitian position is located in the Nutrition and Food Service Line.

    Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. In addition to the normal work schedule, rotating on-call pager for weekends and holidays providing on-site support as needed. May work irregular or extended hours as needed.
    Travel: Occasional Travel between the main campus and outlying CBOC locations.

    Responsibilities

    The Clinical Dietitian is the clinical nutrition expert responsible for independently planning, developing and directing all clinical nutrition care activities for assigned clients, including those with complex medical and nutritional needs. This position will provide nutrition support and education to patients and support the facility's mission of coordinated clinical nutrition care with other health care providers, the client, the client's family, and the community. The incumbent must have expertise in nutrition diagnoses, physical nutrition assessment, food/drug interactions, drug/nutrient depletion, establishment of nutritional goals, and implementing nutrition interventions for a wide range of nutritional disease entities. The Clinical Dietitian will evaluate nutrition assessments, review and interpret pertinent diagnostic and treatment data, and develop, implement, and monitor the nutrition care plan. Other core duties include the following:

    • Reviews and calculates modified diets to meet the special dietary needs of those patients requiring nutrition intervention.
    • Accurately documents in the medical record the nutritional status, nutrient intake, nutritional education, and other pertinent data.
    The Clinical Dietitian will be involved in the professional practice of clinical nutrition in accordance with the guidance set forth in Nutrition and Food Service policies and procedures and VA regulations governing the practice of clinical nutrition. The incumbent may be scheduled and assigned to any clinical nutrition practice area, and must possess the required knowledge and skill in order to perform the following functions: nutritional care; nutrition education; business functions; performance improvement/research; participation as a member of the health care team; and professional development.
