    Summary

    This position is located in the Fabrication Shop, Smithsonian Exhibits (SIE), Smithsonian Instituition (SI). The employee coordinates and facilitates the day-to-day technical operations of the Fabrication Shop and monitors the shipping and receiving of materials and exhibitions.

    Responsibilities

    • Establishes project deadlines and schedules, coordinates all phases of the Fabrication Shop’s production work, and oversees all projects’ timely and on-budget execution.
    • Provides instruction, transparency, and understanding of projects to staff in the fabrication shop. Serves as coach, facilitator and/or negotiator.
    • Works closely with SIE’s Director, Deputy Director, Chief of Production, supervisors, project managers, and other SI staff in all areas of exhibition design and production, with special focus on exhibit fabrication.
    • Interprets scopes and technical specifications for exhibit fabrication, preparing material takeoffs and managing purchasing schedules to facilitate a timely exhibit fabrication process.
