The Missile Defense Agency (MDA), headed by a Director who is appointed by the Secretary of Defense, is established as a separate agency of the Department of Defense (DoD) under the direction, authority, and control of the Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. MDA manages, directs, and executes the ballistic missile defense program with the mission of defining, research, development, testing, production, fielding, foreign military sales, and with the Services, lifecycle maintenance of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) to achieve the following objectives: (1) Defend the Homeland against a limited intercontinental Ballistic Missile attack, (2) Create a highly effective, adaptable, regional missile defense capability, (3) Prove the Ballistic Missile Defense System works; (4) Hedge against Threat Uncertainty; (5) Develop new, fiscally sustainable capabilities over the long term, and (6) Expand international Missile Defense Cooperation.
The Director for International Affairs reports to the Director, MDA. In this capacity the incumbent provides strategic advisory services for all international relations including international and external programs, and serves as the Agency lead in four key functional areas: (1) International Affairs, (2) Foreign Military Sales Implementing Agency (FMS IA), (3) Representing the Director, MDA with USG Interagency, and (4) Delegated Disclosure Authority for Foreign Disclosure and Technology Transfer. In addition to these core functions within the Agency, the Director for International Affairs also serves as the NATO BMD Steering Committee Chairperson.
This is a Tier 2 position. Salaries for Tier 2 positions range from $148,267 to $183,000.
