POLICY RESEARCH INTERN: The Policy Research Intern will work with staff in the office of the VP to research and provide analysis on a range of development policy issues related to MCC's work. Potential topics include inclusive growth, data and transparency, country ownership, results and accountability , trends in global poverty, etc. Tasks are likely to include:
- Writing high-quality policy analyses and talking points, often on short notice
- Summarizing current research, evidence, and policy positions
- Assisting in the development and approval of internal policy and guidance; and
- Supporting the implementation of agency-wide knowledge management, reporting, and learning initiatives.
This position requires knowledge of international development, excellent writing and analytical skills, and an ability to translate academic research to inform policymakers. The position requires an ability to quickly grasp new topics, identify most important sources of research and information, and produce cogent analyses.
SELECTION, ELIGIBILITY & POLICY PERFORMANCE INTERN: Selection and Eligibility (S&E) team is responsible for managing MCC's annual country selection process, monitoring partner country eligibility, and leading ongoing policy research and analysis. The S&E Intern will: (1) Support the S&E team in completing political and policy-related analytical research on candidate countries; (2) Provide research support on democracy, governance, human rights, control of corruption, economic freedom, and social policy in MCC partner countries; (3) Monitor current events in partner countries; (4) Attend external events of interest in the policy community; (5) Attend meetings with partner country representatives, provide background on key partners, and take detailed minutes for relevant meetings; (6) Complete independent research of interest to the intern supportive of team goals and needs.
Excellent writing and analytical skills, the ability to translate current events into succinct policy analyses and the ability to consistently monitor various regions of the world are preferred.
THRESHOLD INTERN INTERN: Threshold Programs are smaller-scale grants awarded by MCC to countries that may not qualify for compact funding but are firmly committed to improving policy performance. The Threshold Program Intern will assist with the development and implementation of Threshold Programs. The Intern will:
- Provide wide-ranging operational support to threshold countries;
- Draft briefing memos, talking points, presentations, and background materials on threshold countries for MCC senior management and external stakeholders;
- Assist in the preparation of portfolio reviews, timelines, implementation plans, budgets, and other materials as requested;
- Provide technical and logistical support for high-level meetings, special events and travel, as needed;
- Prepare and disseminate meetings notes from monthly THP meetings;
- French language skills preferred.
ECONOMIC ANALYSIS INTERN: The Economic Analysis (EA) Division will perform tasks including, but not limited to:Provide analytical support for MCC Economists conducting growth diagnostics (constraints analysis); Provide technical and analytical support to MCC Economists conducting cost-benefit analysis and beneficiary analysis for proposed or re-scoped MCC investments; Prepare reports, spreadsheets, data and documentation as inputs to analytical work for the EA division, as related to the analyses mentioned above or other research; Develop other materials including fact sheets, guides for use of spreadsheets, and other public communications tools related to the work of the EA Division; Research and analysis in support of other activities within the EA Division and the Department of Policy and Evaluation; and Other duties as assigned
MONITORING AND EVALUATION INTERN: The Intern will assist with data documentation of current methods for monitoring and evaluating compact programs; review M&E business process as it relates to developing the management information system and website reporting (MIS); conduct research and prepare reports on donor involvement in Compact and Threshold countries; generate quantitative and qualitative summaries of country performance on M&E indicators; prepare country program summaries, performance measurements, and results data for publication and website posting; assist with preparing data reports for MCC senior management, Board of Directors, and external stakeholders; create/maintain resource libraries; attend internal and external meetings; and other duties as assigned.
Experience in political economy/institutional analysis, system dynamics, or governance/institutional reform preferred.
