The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an attorney with the Office of the General Counsel's Intelligence Law Division. Intelligence attorneys provide substantive legal advice and guidance to homeland security officials regarding the conduct of intelligence and information sharing and safeguarding activities within DHS, the U.S. Intelligence Community, and among our federal, State, local, tribal, and private sector homeland security mission partners. Intelligence counsel analyze complex legal and factual issues, provide counsel to senior officials, and perform other duties in support of activities authorized by the Homeland Security Act of 2002, the National Security Act of 1947, as amended, and pursuant to Executive Orders (EOs) 12,333, 12,968, 13,388, 13,526, 13,556, 13,587, and other applicable laws and EOs. This position furthers the DHS mission by supporting the management and development of the Department's intelligence enterprise and various intelligence and information sharing and safeguarding programs and initiatives.
Promotion Potential: The Full Promotional Potential of this position is to the GS-15.
This is a permanent appointment in the excepted service and will be filled on a full-time permanent basis. Employees hired under an Excepted Service appointment are required to serve a 2 year trial period. Upon successful completion of the required trial period, this position will be permanent.
