    An independent Federal agency, we provide the President and Congress with-high quality analysis and technical support on international trade, tariff, and competitiveness issues; hear and decide import-injury cases and publish the United States' tariff schedule.     The position is located in the Office of Operations, Office of Industries, Natural Resources and Energy Division. The ideal candidate is inquisitive and possesses the ability to obtain and analyze a broad range of product-specific trade and industry information from U.S. and foreign firms, trade associations, industry regulators, and other sources. Such a candidate (1) demonstrates an ability and desire to
    conduct extensive primary and secondary research (including data collection) on a wide range of products, industries, markets, and trade issues; (2) is skilled at resolving trade and industry data issues; (3) has excellent interpersonal skills and is comfortable working in a team environment and communicating with high level industry and government officials; (4) excels in both written and oral communication;
    (5) possesses a firm grasp of microeconomic, macroeconomic, industrial organization, international trade and finance concepts; (6) demonstrates practical knowledge of quantitative methods of analysis; (7) has a knowledge of international trade laws; and (8) has proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

    Responsibilities

    The position requires expertise pertaining to minerals and metals products (specifically, steel and steel making materials) and the industries that produce them. The person selected will provide authoritative, professional advice to top-level Commission officials on matters of international trade in these products. The selectee participates in investigations and studies of international trade, regulations, measures that impede trade, and trade agreements, which are used by the Commission to provide the necessary background and support to the President and Congress in the development of U.S. trade policy. This position requires a high level of expertise concerning minerals and metals products industries and related issues, including trade restrictions, marketing and distribution channels, global supply chains, competitive conditions, business strategies, and sources of domestic and foreign data. The individual will develop and maintain contacts with industry officials and other government agencies. The individual will apply this expertise in studies evaluating the global competitive position of U.S. minerals and metals industries relative to foreign industries and import competition, to enable the Commission to advise the President and Congress on various trade issues, and provide information and assistance to the public and industry where necessary and appropriate.
