General Information
This position is year-round. During the school year part-time 32 hours per week will apply, the work schedule can be adjusted to meet the student's schedule; full-time hours may apply during summer and school breaks.

The USGS WESTERN ECOLOGICAL RESEARCH CENTER, located in Olympia, WA is seeking a Ph. d. level student working towards a degree in Biology, Wildlife Biology, Ecology or Restoration Biology to gain practical experience in fish and avian species; restoration ecology; and analyzing large data sets.
As a Student Trainee (Biology) you will serve in a trainee capacity, performing routine and recurring development assignments to acquire knowledge and understanding of functions, principles, practices, and methods used in the area of Wildlife Biology.
Duties include:
--Planning, organizing, and implementing biological investigations that affect wildlife and fishery resources.
--Gathering, analyzing, and summarizing scientific, programmatic, and budgetary data.
--Summarizing and modeling wetland habitat parameters to determine outcomes of wetland restoration projects.
--Utilizing modeling techniques test scientific hypotheses within scientific manuscripts.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Temperature and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of outdoor work. Requires some physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Moderate physical ability and average agility and dexterity are needed. Some duties may require the use of special protective gear.
