The Kennedy Center, as the sole presidential memorial to John F. Kennedy in the environs of Washington, D.C., is a national center for the performing arts managed by the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees. The Kennedy Center includes eight theatres, presenting more than 2,000 performances annually, restaurants, gift shops, interactive displays, public spaces, administrative offices, theatre and building support spaces, and a parking garage. This position is located in the Facilities Management Division of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, under the supervision of the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor. You will perform journeyman level work which includes the inspection, maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and replacement of various plumbing systems, features, and components installed in a wide variety of non-standard applications including restaurants, galleries, theatres, a concert hall, and an opera house; large interior and exterior special event spaces, terraces and plazas; architectural display fountains and their support systems; underground service tunnels; large, complex and unique utility spaces; computer server rooms; a parking garage; and temporary modular office space.
The tour of duty of this position is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
This position will be converted permanently to cover the Swing Shift for coverage of both the Day and Night shift of a pay period. The following schedule will be applicable:
Week 1: Tuesday - Wednesday 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Thursday - Saturday 2:30 p.m. -11:00 p.m.
Week 2: Tuesday - Thursday 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Friday - Saturday 2:30 p.m. -11:00 p.m.

The plumber will be expected to professionally evaluate work projects by analyzing the material resources needed, securing those resources, and staging the work project to meet project goals. Work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and layout proper sizing, routing, placement, slant, slope, and fall of systems and equipment. Maintain records, troubleshoot systems, anticipate and respond to signs of system or equipment failure, and follow up with all necessary repairs, including wet and dry fire suppressions systems, and all restrooms.
Special conditions of employment:
Work may take place in confined spaces, under cramped and uncomfortable conditions and may present eye and foot hazards. Work is subject to extremes of weather conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, wind, and humidity. You may be exposed to serious injury when working on energized circuits or near operating machinery.
You must be able to exert heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as frequently lifting and moving objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
You may be required to work a shift that includes nights, weekends and holidays.
You may be required to work on an overtime basis with little or no prior notice.
You are required to wear the prescribed John F. Kennedy Center uniform. Personal appearance is to be in compliance with established uniform standards.
This position is identified as "emergency essential" which means you must report to work during adverse weather conditions and during emergencies.
This is a full time permanent position without time limitation.
