The Congressional Research Service (CRS), Knowledge Services Group (KSG) seeks a Collections Management Librarian to join its Knowledge and Technical Services Section. The librarian will manage print collections to ensure that materials are organized and made accessible to CRS staff. The incumbent is expected to review existing collections and, in collaboration with stakeholders, make recommendations for the withdrawal/retention of materials in the CRS Library and/or digitization of materials as appropriate. Candidates with a Master of Library Science (MLS) or equivalent degree or experience, and/or knowledge of current practices of librarianship or other fields and disciplines related to the management of, and access to, print and digital collections are encouraged to apply.

The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area.
The incumbent of this position may elect to work a flexitime or compflex work schedule.
The selectee will work a 40-hour week.

While it is the Library's policy to afford the maximum pay benefit to employees when setting rates of pay, a new appointee who has had no previous federal service will generally be paid the minimum step of the grade.
The incumbent reviews internal collections, identifies and inventories groups of materials, and interprets and advises on the contents of the CRS Library, including both cataloged and un-cataloged, and current and retrospective items.
Maintains collections of materials in a variety of formats, identifies and weeds duplicate or obsolete materials, and ensures that appropriate materials are added to the CRS Library. Applies standard library operating procedures to resolve collections maintenance issues. Develops plans to expedite sorting, arranging, and shelving of books, documents and periodicals. Identifies gaps and duplicates to make sure holdings are correctly reflected in the CRS catalog. Independently manages collections projects and assignments, including negotiating deadlines and time frames for completion.
Ensures the security and the appropriate handling of the library materials. Assesses documents considered for addition to the library and/or the CRS archives with regard to condition, contents, scope, storage history, and other aspects pertinent to the preservation and long-term survival of the material.
Assists in the identification of equipment and supplies required for conducting collections maintenance and preservation activities. Coordinates with the Library of Congress’s preservation staff on preservation activities as appropriate.
