The Surface Transportation Board (STB) is a small independent federal agency with broad regulatory authority over railroads and more limited regulatory responsibilities over certain water carriers, non-energy pipelines, trucking companies, and inter-city bus companies. STB receives its statutory authority from the STB Reauthorization Act of 2015. STB is seeking interested applicants for the position of Paralegal Specialist, located in the Office of Proceedings (OP).

You will serve as a Paralegal Specialist in the Office of Proceedings, and in this capacity, you will:
-Perform a wide variety of specialized legal assistance duties and administrative and program support functions which facilitate the work of the Office and the Board;
-Assist with the adjudication of formal proceedings requiring the analysis of legal issues affecting railroads, motor carriers, pipeline carriers, and water carriers;
-Manage and track the legal case load of the Board;
-Identify, finalize, and document Board Member votes and develop indices of Board proceedings;
-Draft and review decisions and notices for publication.
You must be a U.S. citizen or national.
You must be able to pass a background investigation.
Qualifications Must Be Met

Time-in-Grade
Current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade band in the federal service. The time-in-grade requirement must be met by closing date of this announcement.
