The USPTO leads efforts to develop and strengthen both domestic and international property protection and advises the Secretary of Commerce, the President of the United States, and the Administration on IP protection.

    This volunteer service offers opportunities within the Office of Policy and International Affairs-China Team. The program is intended to give students an opportunity to experience what it is like to work at PTO, as well as interact with experts, explore opportunities and develop or enhance personal and professional skills.

    Applications will be accepted from the first 250 applicants.

    Assists staff of the China Team by researching intellectual property issues in China and assisting with organizing meetings and programs in the US and in China. Some instruction on Chinese IP databases may be provided.

    Ideal applicants have: -

    • Knowledge of the Chinese language
    • Knowledge of Intellectual Property (IP)
    • Ability to research US and Chinese IP cases and patents
    • Ability to use PowerPoint and Excel (including data analysis/charting tools similar to Excel)
    • Skill in preparing instructional materials
    This is a 10-12 week summer program. If selected to participate, you will be expected to begin work on May 21, unless other arrangements are made with the Selecting Official. You will be expected to work 36-40 hours per week.
