This position is located in the Health Information Management Section (HIMS) of the Business Office at the Northport VA. The incumbent will serve as the section Chief of Health Information Management Service. Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief, Business Office, the Supervisory Medical Record Administrator (Chief, HIMS) is responsible for complete oversight of all units in the Health Information Management Section at each division, CBOCs and various contract services. Specific operations include Medical Record Coding, Records Processing and Completion, Document Scanning, Release of Information, Medical Record File Unit, Medical Transcription, Records Management and other functions as required.
The incumbent is responsible for the management of the facility's health record program and medical information/data management. The incumbent plays a dominant role in all aspects of health information at this institution. The incumbent participates actively in all clinical programs in the VAMC and assures that the institution has a state-of-the-art health information program that exceeds all Joint Commission and VA requirements in addition to meeting the needs of executive management and clinical staff.
The incumbent coordinates individual and group activities towards accomplishing overall VA, VISN and VAMC goals and participates in short and long range planning of Health Information Management activities for short and long-range goals.
The incumbent will also serve as the Alternate Privacy Officer, and the FOIA Officer overseeing all ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of and adherence to policies and procedures on privacy and confidentiality in compliance with VA directives, handbooks and applicable laws and regulations.
Duties include but are not limited to:
-Developing operational strategies in HIMS that support VA; setting goals and controlling program activities and cost to achieve these goals and realize VA's mission.
-Planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, controlling, evaluating and adjusting program activities to meet changing medical center and system needs.
-Providing advice, assistance and guidance in response to questions or problems posed by Service Line Leaders and other System staff concerning policy determinations.
-Providing technical advice and interpretation on the vast number of regulations, which constitute the basic authority for health information management issues.
-The incumbent is responsible for the overall personnel management in HIMS.
-Participating in planning, negotiating, and implementing new and/or improved health information management and health records programs.
-Developing internal review systems and standards within HIMS to assure that health information and medical record activities are coordinated with clinical service needs and in compliance with established standards.
-Developing and maintaining affiliation agreements with AHIMA recognized schools and programs for health information management and technology
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
