    This is a Permanent Career/Career-Conditional Full-Time appointment.

    This position is concurrently open under Announcement Number AK-1537-WEAR-18-10108113-ST for merit promotion eligibles.

    Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will be paid if the selectee lives outside of the local commuting area and is otherwise eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with the Federal Travel Regulation.

    Responsibilities

    You will serve as the shared archeologist for Western Arctic National Parklands (WEAR) and Bering Land Bridge National Preserve (BELA) and is based in Kotzebue, Alaska. Supervision is provided by the Chief of Resources in Western Arctic National Parklands who is based in Kotzebue, Alaska. The primary archeological responsibilities of the position are to develop and conduct new archeological research and projects, develop funding proposals, synthesize current and previous research into reports and publications, use GPS and Geographic Information System (GIS) to conduct projects and write publications regarding projects, use and maintain computer database programs to track archeological information, and plan and conduct National Historic Preservation Act Section 110 and Section 106 compliance activities including monitoring ground-disturbance and resource monitoring fieldwork. You will conduct public outreach about projects, and participate in professional meetings. Up to 2 months of fieldwork may occur between the months of June and September in WEAR and BELA. Fieldwork involves camping and hiking with heavy loads in remote locations accessed by motorized watercraft, fixed-wing aircraft, and/or helicopters.
