WARTAC Challenge
The Warrior Training Advancement Course (WARTAC) is a pilot program sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), in partnership with the Department of Defense (DoD), to train wounded warriors and transitioning Service members to process VA disability claims. WARTAC is open to Wounded Warriors and active duty Service members in the transition process (generally within 90 to 120 days of discharge). This 14-week training program provides participants with an opportunity to learn the skill set of a VA Veteran Service Representative (VSR). The ultimate goal is to hire participants as Veterans Service Representatives at VBA Regional Offices. Consequently, participants must meet performance standards, which include production and quality elements. If you meet one of the following Special Appointment Authorities you may be considered. However, you must also meet the qualifications for the position.
You are required to select your top three (3) locations for which you wish to be considered for upon graduation. Ultimate selections will be used on the needs of the agency.
Veteran Recruitment Appointment (VRA) - This authority allows consideration of any Veteran who is service-connected disabled OR separated within the last three (3) years; OR in receipt of a Campaign Badge or Expeditionary Medal; OR in receipt of the Armed Forces Service Medal for participation in a military operation AND separated under honorable conditions (honorable or general discharge).
*Service members who are currently on Active Duty and expect to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days are eligible for consideration.
Special Employment Consideration - VOW Act
WARTAC is open to Wounded Warriors and active duty Service members in the transition process (within 90 to 120 days of discharge). In accordance with the VOW to Hire Heroes Act of 2011, transitioning Service members must:
Meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements for the job opportunity; submit certification on letterhead on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of service and contain the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date and the character of service; and separate from the armed forces within 120 days after the date of the certification submission.

As a Rating Veterans Service Representative (RVSR) for the Veterans Benefits Administration you will:Analyze claims to determine if diseases and/or injuries were incurred or aggravated by military service in the line of duty for purposes of compensation, treatment or hospitalization.
Physical Requirements: PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is primarily sedentary with some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of lightweight items (eg. folders, claims files, etc.)

This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
