What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?
This is a term appointment for which all qualified applicants with or without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointment to this position, however, will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition.
GS-09 Salary: $53,735 (Step 01) to $69,859 (Step 10); GS-11 Salary: $65,014 (Step 01) to $84,514 (Step 10).
NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.
There is one vacancy that may be filled at the GS-09 or 11 level; however, this announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available.
As a Hydrologist within the Washington Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
-Complete hydrologic investigations by planning, conducting, and reporting on interpretive studies that typically require modification of established techniques or procedures and extensive collection, interpretation, analysis, and evaluation of hydrologic data.
-Conduct the interpretive study and provide advice, interpretation, and training to other professionals in the application or modification of established standards, methods, and procedures to ensure adequate treatment and thorough consideration of anomalous study conditions or situations.
-Discuss agreements, study methods, approach, techniques, and desired results with management and representatives of cooperative agencies to implement hydrologic studies.
-Prepare reports of findings for complete hydrologic interpretive studies summarizing the results of hydrologic investigations and technically review parts of reports prepared by project team members.
-Maintain liaison with employees of Federal and State Governments, local officials, and private organizations who are affected by, or otherwise have a shared interested in, water resource management practices and problems in the regional area.
Above duties are for the GS-11 level. At the lower grade level, the incumbent performs a wide range of tasks described in the above listing of duties and responsibilities. At the lower level, the incumbent will be assigned work designed to further develop and refine their knowledge and skills. Assignments will typically combine productive work with on-going training and instruction. Supervision received at the lower level will be closer with oversight and review being provided more frequently.
Occasional travel - Overnight travel of 1-5 nights per month may be required.
