As a TRAINING INSTRUCTOR (TADSS), GS-0301-9, you will:
Be located at the Idaho Army National Guard, Gowen Field, Installation Support Unit, Director of Plans, Training and Sustainment.
The primary purpose of this position is to perform duties as training Instructor for Training Aids, Devices, Simulators, and Simulations (TADSS) within the Training Support Branch. The work consists of duties involved in non-related processes, procedures, and methods to develop and perform instruction, tours, briefings, and simulator operations. Serves as training support advisors for units assigned (i.e., Active Army, US Army Reserves, National Guard, and other DoD agencies). Serves as the TADSS subject matter training expert on major systems. Operates and instructs on all training simulators.
Serves as Instructor/Operator for Virtual TADSS and installation subject matter expert on TADSS training issues. Researches data from a variety of sources to provide information on doctrine and utilization strategy to applicable trainers. Interprets and adapts guidelines and established training objectives for the type of unit and equipment, and designs training modules to meet their objectives. Develops and updates TADSS instruction course material, lesson plans, program instructions. etc., to ensure Soldiers receive the most up-to-date instruction. Ensures instructional materials, training aids and systems are present and are operational. Answers technical questions related to the full range of trainer capabilities, to include displays controls, training scenarios, etc. Provides instruction on a wide variety of virtual TADSS such as the Engagement Skills Training System, the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement Systems (MILES), and the Call for Fire Systems, and HUMVEE Assistance Egress Training System. Instruction includes detailed explanation, demonstration and practical exercises. Manages and maintains TADSS to include issuing and receiving training devices. Provides technical assistance to staff and unit instructors to improve instructional competence. Monitors and observes students during practical exercises and provides assistance as required. Observes students operating the trainers, ensuring that any operational errors are detected and students redirected. Evaluates performance and provides special assistance to students or instructors requiring special or additional training.
Provides training and certification of new operators and annual re-certification of current operators. Performs operator maintenance, service checks, and diagnostic procedures in accordance with the applicable operator and maintenance manuals. Install, set up simulator and performs daily preoperational readiness checks and facilitate fault isolation by the trainer. Based on the result of the checks, replaces failed plug-in modules identified diagnostics and perform technical inspections of the trainers. Performs post shut down procedures on the assigned trainers subsequent to daily training. Ensures adequate security measures are in place to equipment malfunction. Provides guidance and problem solving techniques to resolve operational problems. Briefs students in safety procedures, required equipment, etc., prior to operations. Contacts contractor logistics support to obtain repair services. Troubleshoots to diagnose problems and takes corrective actions as prescribed. Knowledge of simulator systems is required in order to operate, troubleshoot to diagnose problems, and takes corrective actions and make adjustments to systems as prescribed. Consolidates related training maintenance and usage reports submitted by the TADSS. Monitors internal control systems and operations to ensure government resources are effectively and efficiently managed.
Provides Virtual TADSS Training support services. Conducts tours and briefings for small informal groups regarding support and capabilities. Prepares and conducts briefings to al levels of staff and commands are required. Assists units in determining what MILES/TADSS support is available to provide the unit with mission-related training support services. Assists others in maintaining proficiency and understanding of the full range of the MILES/TADSS product and service capability. Assists the Branch Chief with special projects, which may require some research, organization, and/or presentation of data. Prepares reports and records detailing work and projects accomplished and/or status. Provides input for development, staffing, and execution of training support policies and programs within the Training Support Center (TSC) footprint. Input includes, but is not limited to, policies, procedures, SOP's, and similar guidelines for scheduling and use of training facilities, equipment, and resources.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:
Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Substitution of Education for the Specialized Experience - Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree, in an accredited college or university, meets the requirement for 6 months of specialized experienc. Completion of courses such as the Officer Advanced Course, Squadron Officer School, Command and Staff College, Air and Army War College, National Security Management Course and others of comparable level will be credited at the rate of 1 month of education for two months of specialized experience.
