FAMILY PROGRAM SPECIALIST, GS-0301-9
This position is located in the Joint Force Headquarters (State), Manpower and Personnel Directorate (J-1), Support Programs Division. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a team member and advisor on Family Program issues, assist in the development, planning, implementing, and administering the Family Program concerning family and quality of life issues.
(1) Serves as an advisor on quality of life and Family Program matters for National Guard and reserve members with the goal of maximizing retention and readiness.
(2) Assists in planning, maintaining, and updating an ongoing system of information and referral for use by the military community.
(3) Receives and maintains volunteer hours contributed; supports Family Readiness Groups; designs and conducts training programs for volunteers; and designs and conducts volunteer recognition activities.
(4) Serves as representative at conferences and meetings on quality of life and Family Program matters.
(5) Plans and coordinates mobilization processes for pre-deployment, deployment, and post-deployment issues.
(6) Advises chain of command of current and proposed programs and policies requiring modification to improve family readiness and wellness.
(7) Coordinates the state family youth program that addresses issues and concerns of youth related to Guard life and youth readiness and well being.
(8) Performs other duties as assigned.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:
Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree, in an accredited college or university, meets the GS-5 level requirements. Completion of courses such as the Officer Advanced Course, Squadron Officer School, Command and Staff College, Air and Army War College, National Security Management Course and others of comparable level will be credited at the rate of 1 month of education for two months of specialized experience.
