    Responsibilities

    DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled through the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) Government-Wide Direct-Hire Authority for this occupation and is open to all U.S. Citizens.

    Veterans' Preference: Since the Direct-Hire Recruitment Authority is being used, traditional Veterans' Preference rules do not apply. Qualified veterans will, however, be given full consideration for this position.

    This position is located in Office of Information and Technology in either one of three locations in New Orleans, LA. The Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) provides adaptable, secure, and cost-effective technology services across the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The incumbent serves as a Lead Information Technology Specialist with duties associated with Information Security. We manage all of VA's IT assets and resources, and we deliver technology and expertise to support Veterans and their families every day.

    The employee serves as an Information Security Officer in the Field Security Service (FSS), Office of Information Security (OIS), Office of Information Technology (OIT). The employee serves as the primary Information Security Officer (ISO) in support of a Veteran Affairs facility or specified program area of responsibility and reports to either the supervisory District Director or Supervisory Network ISO as the FSS Director deems appropriate. The employee actively participates in network and systems design to ensure implementation of viable systems security policies and procedures. Develops policies and procedures to ensure secure Information a reliability and accessibility; and to prevent and safeguard against unauthorized access to automated information systems, networks and data. Conducts systems security evaluations, audits and reviews; and develops Automated Information Systems (AIS) security contingency plans and disaster recovery procedures. Designs IT programs to ensure controlled accessibility to AIS', as well as to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems network and data. Monitors and tracks controlled access programs to ensure implementation and viability of appropriate systems security policies, as well as the acquisition of IT security tools.
