Incumbent serves as Director, External Relations at NASA's Johnson Space Center (JSC) with responsibility for providing strategic communications leadership for all Center programs and policies which include external components. These components can be other Federal Agencies, educational institutions and academia, the media, interested communities, elected officials or their staffs. In addition, leads JSC's internal communication efforts and establishes effective relationships with NASA Headquarters and the other Field Centers.
-Formulates policy for the dissemination of all public information, including internal, community, and media information and advises the Center Director concerning the public impact of NASA JSC programs.
-Plans, directs, organizes, and implements strategic communications initiatives and programs.
-Enhances JSC's relationships with key external audiences, communities, constituencies and government entities. Builds support for NASA programs through community involvement, exhibits programs, public presentations, special events, guest operations, and government relations.
-Establishes an integrated educational program for elementary and high school students and teachers to support NASA objectives of encouraging studies in science, technology, engineering, and math.
-Provides strategic direction and focus for Center - University partnerships in science, engineering, and technology. Identifies mutually-beneficial science, engineering and technology opportunities, as part of a comprehensive education and community relationship activity.
-Coordinates, manages, and implements the Agency's key recognition program for performance and leadership in the area of safety and mission assurance.
