This is an interdisciplinary position which may be filled by any of the following series: Biologist (0401), Environmental Engineer (0819), Physical Scientist (1301), Geologist (1350).
The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
- Direct environmental program directors and associated staff in matters concerning environmental compliance and resource management.
- Coordinate environmental program plans with staff to achieve and maintain environmental compliance of ongoing operations.
- Monitor requests for funding to ensure the division's environmental mission is achieved within budget constraints.
- Manage a workforce with varied areas of expertise to maximize personnel resources consistent with mission requirements.
Occasional travel - Travel is dependent upon position description and availability of funding.

The work required regular and recurring construction and field inspections, investigations, or surveys in which there is a considerable amount of walking, stooping, bending, and climbing. Duties also require use of other personal protective equipment, which requires physical stamina to work for prolonged periods in a heat - stressed environment.
Work is in an office and field setting. During visits to sites and facilities, there is some exposure to unfavorable conditions such as, dangerous chemicals, noise, fumes, contaminated water, and machinery.

A registered Professional Geologist (1350 Series) in the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, or any State in the U.S.
BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR THE BIOLOGICAL SCIENTIST (0401 SERIES):
Have completed a 4 year course of study from an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in one of the following: Biological Sciences, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
Have a combination of education and experience in courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education that equals at least 100% of the requirements for the position.
BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR THE PHYSICAL SCIENTIST (1301 SERIES):
Have completed a 4 year course of study from an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
Have a combination of education and experience-I have education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education that equals at least 100% of the requirements for the position.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Use knowledge of environmental concepts and policies to provide protection of the environment and natural resources; 2) Follow environmental laws and regulations to ensure compliance of environmental programs (Hazardous Waste Management and Disposal, Solid Waste Management, Pollution Prevention, Drinking Water Quality, Wastewater Discharge Quality, Oily Waste/Waste Oil Management, Underground/Above ground Storage Tanks, etc.); 3) Present reports/briefs to command on environmental issues; and 4) Prepare annual execution plans and budgetary submittals.

This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) and requires additional training, experience and possibly education.
