Serves as Branch Chief for the Utilities Branch of Yosemite National Park and is responsible and accountable for the utilities operations and maintenance program for the Park. Is a full and functioning member of the management team and assists in the establishment of policies, objectives, operating procedures, guidelines and administrative controls for the Park. Is responsible for the maintenance and operation of 22 wastewater treatment facilities, 26 water systems, 123 miles of pipeline and necessary appurtenances, 4 NPS owned electrical distribution systems, 4 full time generating systems, 18 emergency standby generators and 4 portable electric generators, 400,000 linear feet of distribution lines, 200 transformers and 1200 water and electric meters. Strict compliance with federal, State of California and county regulations must be adhered to, insuring public health and safety.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.
Physical Demands: Work is mostly sedentary, although there is some walking, horseback riding, and backcountry hiking in mountainous terrain associated with on-site inspections. May also climb ladders and crawl in tight places or confined spaces and wear personal protective equipment to inspect facilities and work performed.
Working Conditions: Most work is performed in an office setting, with some exposure to the various risks and discomforts associated with a construction environment when inspecting the facilities being managed. Risks include exposure to hazardous conditions, extreme weather conditions, and varying altitudes. Work frequently requires driving a vehicle and requires a valid state driver's license.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
