The Staff Physical Therapist is assigned to the Extended Care Service of the Battle Creek VA Medical Center. The incumbent evaluates patients, plans, established, and executes a full range of treatment procedures designed to restore homeostasis to the individual patient to enhance the adaptive capacities through the use of physical measures, activities, prostheses or assistive devices. Provides home programs as appropriate and involves significant others in this process. The duties include but are not limited to:
-Screens and interprets PT consults using specialized skills and medical knowledge in the evaluation of patients' medical condition.
-Evaluates the patients' present functional level and disabilities.
-Establishes meaningful/measureable/functional therapeutic goals and designs a treatment plan to meet the goals established in the more efficient manner.
-Completes appropriately timed re-evaluations for the patients and modifies the goals based on the information gained by re-evaluation.
The incumbent in this position will not be required to file a financial disclosure.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Hours may be rotated or extended to include weekend and holidays based on the needs of the Medical Center and our Veterans.

Basic Requirements:

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Grade Determinations:
GS-11 Physical Therapist
Experience, Education, and Licensure. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, completion of 1 year of progressively complex experience and a broader scope of experience equivalent to the next lower grade; or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a doctoral degree; or a doctoral degree in physical therapy or a directly field.
In addition, candidates must fully demonstrate the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) below:
1. Knowledge of contemporary and evidence-based PT practice.
2. Ability to interpret clinician prescriptions and referrals.
3. Skill in communicating, both orally and in writing, with patients, families, caregivers, and other health care professionals to facilitate the multidisciplinary treatment process.
4. Skill in utilizing appropriate screening and evaluation techniques required to appropriately provide direct patient care.
5. Knowledge of clinical signs and symptoms to make appropriate referrals for further medical attention/assessments as indicated.
