This position is located in the Office of Management & Museum Services, Facilities Planning Office, of the National Museum of American History (NMAH), Smithsonian Institution (SI). The incumbent coordinates the integrated, multi-discipline facility and logistics programs at the NMAH in all aspects. This includes construction, maintenance and repair, security, safety, disaster management, external landscape and horticulture, and sustainability by assuring that all activities support and implement the Directors priorities, the NMAH tactical plan, and the NMAH strategic plan. The Museum occupies a 53 year-old, 750,000 square foot building on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. and stores collections off-site in 238,610 square feet of storage space off site in suburban Maryland. The building hosts approximately 4 million visitors a year, conditions and operations are highly visible to the public, requiring a high standard for oversight and maintenance.Learn more about this agency
- Planning, coordinating and liaising with the Smithsonian Facilities (SF) NMAH building manager and zone manager on all matters relating to the maintenance and sustainable operation of the American History building physical plant.
- Planning, coordinating and liaising with the SI Office of Protection Services’ (OPS) NMAH Security Manager on all matters relating to the security program and security program operation.
- Planning, coordinating and liaising with the SI Facilities regarding design and construction renovations and improvements in NMAH non-public spaces including space planning, renovation and maintenance.
- Providing leadership and management of the NMAH safety, disaster and emergency management programs.
