    The IT Specialist plans, develops, and maintains IT systems within the framework of the Texas Long Term Recovery Office's program priorities and mission requirements. This position starts at a salary of $72,739 (IC-12).

    EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

    This position is being announced under FEMA's Cadre of On-call Response/Recovery Employee (CORE) Program. This is a temporary appointment in the Excepted Service, not to exceed 2 years, with the option to extend based on workload and funding availability. Veterans Preference does not apply to the CORE selection process.

    Responsibilities

    In this position, you will plan, develop, and maintain IT systems within the framework of the Texas Long Term Recovery Office's program priorities and mission requirements. The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of the interrelationships of multiple IT disciplines sufficient to provide advice on and devise solutions to a wide range of complex IT issues throughout the organization. Typical assignments include:

    • Providing policy guidance and direction and participating in the development of directives, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to automation resources and Information Technology systems
    • Participating in special studies, actions, surveys, and on-site visits and evaluating the effectiveness of current systems and automation resource utilization for the purpose of identifying problem areas, determining probable cause, recommending corrective action and exercising responsibility for implementing decisions
    • Consulting on matters such as software requirements and design specifications and procedures to test and assess software functions and safety
    • Coordinating and monitoring systems hardware/software installation, operation, maintenance and upgrades
