This position is located at the Core Technologies (CT) Unit, Eastern Regional Research Center (ERRC), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), at Wyndmoor, PA. The CT Group encompasses the Central Computing Facility (CCF), Microscopic Imaging, Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, and Scientific Information Resources Groups. The CCF provides critical information technology (IT) support to the ERRC’s scientific mission and administrative functions. The incumbent provides technical support to ERRC scientists and research programs in scientific computation, data storage and transfer, and scientific instrumentation. The incumbent also provides support to the Big-Data Research Initiative and high-speed/high volume computing. In addition, this position is instrumental in ensuring the cyber security of the IT network, data, and the computing systems.

Specialized Experience:
Applicants must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. The specialized experience requirements for this position are:
Experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining and managing computer network, databases, and servers, developing new networking schemes, and making sound decisions for technical and structural upgrades and during unforeseen events, and perceiving the impact of such decisions to accomplish the goals; using modern programming in support of data processing, database programming, and database and network management; preparing and updating manuals, instructions, and operating procedures and providing information, training and support to customers.
• Career Transition Assistance Plan(CTAP) or Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP): If you are claiming CTAP/ICTAP eligibility, provide proof of eligibility to include your most recent performance appraisal, SF-50, and proof of eligibility such as a RIF separation notice or letter from OPM/your agency.
