This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), Office of Science (OS), located in Silver Spring, Maryland. As a Supervisory Health Scientist
Provide scientific leadership on special projects that are inherently complex in regards to regulations and science.
Manage research agenda, identifying and prioritizing population health-related research questions for regulatory priorities. Keep abreast of emerging and ongoing findings in the field of health science and tobacco regulatory science.
Perform review of tobacco product application reviews.
Provide leadership, guidance, and/or regulatory expertise to address and solve regulatory issues consistent with new scientific evidence. Apply new concepts, theories, and methods for resolving problems.
Serve as a Senior Advisor on matters pertaining to unsolved problems and research gaps in field of health science.
Provide professional expertise in health science for public health issues related to tobacco products. Perform administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Provide advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters.
Establish guidelines and performance expectations for staff members, which are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system.

Basic Qualification Requirements for Health Scientist, GS-601-15:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
AND
Minimum Qualifications that meets the Additional Qualification Requirements for Supervisory Health Scientist, GS-601-15:
I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14, grade level in the Federal service, which includes providing scientific leadership on special projects, policies and procedures related to population health and tobacco regulatory science; providing health science advice for public health issues related to tobacco products.
